Senior Accountant Specialist

Role Overview

Guavapay is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant Specialist to lead and enhance our financial operations. This role encompasses managing daily accounting activities, overseeing period-end closings, and ensuring compliance with local tax laws and financial regulations. The Senior Accountant Specialist will prepare accurate financial statements, handle tax filings, and collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies. Additionally, this position involves providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making and mentoring junior accounting staff to foster professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Management

• Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
• Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheets, and intercompany transactions
• Oversee month-end and year-end closings, ensuring timely and accurate journal entries and adjustments.
• Review and validate financial data and reports during closing periods.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
• Ensure compliance with local financial regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
• Coordinate with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies during reviews and audits.

Taxation & Compliance

• Prepare and file VAT returns, corporate tax reports, and other statutory filings.
• Monitor compliance with local tax regulations and support tax planning initiatives.

Business Partnering & Strategic Support

• Collaborate with internal teams to deliver financial insights that guide business decisions.
• Support financial due diligence, M&A activities, and other corporate finance tasks.

Leadership & Mentoring

• Provide guidance to junior accountants and help build their technical skills.
• Manage workload distribution to ensure deadlines are met efficiently.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (ACCA/CPA qualification is a plus).
• Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting, preferably in a fast-paced or international environment.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and local tax regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Confident communicator with a collaborative mindset.
• Fluent in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of Azerbaijani or Russian is an advantage
